Well.. without even noticing it I'm finding that after over 2 years of pretty much ignoring anime except for the occaisonal high-profile title (Sen to Chihiro, Innocence: Ghost in the Shell 2) I'm pretty deep into it again. Right now I'm wathching 5 shows at once -
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - After what, a year? 2 years? of putting this series off I finally sat down and watched it start to finish over about 3 days. I regret ever putting this aside. This series is incredible. I'm a sucker for all things GitS apparently. The political aspects never once feel overdone to me, in fact I love that they focus so much on a complex story - which has been the mainstay of GitS (=Shirow's) work since it began. Episode 25 of the first season is about the greatest thing I've seen in a very long time. I just started 2nd Gig and it seems like they're staying on course.
The end of episode 1 of 2nd Gig made me smile from ear to ear. ^____^
Naruto - I never, ever, expected to love this series as much as I have grown to. I'm up to episode 122 now (123 currently on its way) and fully caught up to the show. People say it's like Dragon Ball Z, but aside from the very basic plot structure, it's not. Or if it is - it's like a well-told, fleshed out, intelligent, dramatic, logical, non-sucking version of DBZ. In a way it reminds me of Initial D, because when the fights occur the winner is mostly decided by tactics and approach, than by pulling out some super special new attack. Naruto is absolutely a great show and unlike DBZ, has earned its fanbase.
Monster - I'm not entirely sure how popular this series is, but that doesn't matter to me. What matters to me is that I saw this little show on a whim, and it's fantastic. Between the cyberpunk action-political-drama of GitS SAC, and Naruto's over-the-top marital arts action, Monster is a good break to take, rooted in current times. The anime horror/mystery programs I've seen (Detective Conan notwithstanding) have been really good, and this keeps up the tradition. It's kind of long, and I'm only on episode 13, but thus far I've been very interested. Hope it remains that way.
Top o Narae! 2 - Honestly, I'll probably stick this show out till the end just (6 episodes.. I can risk that) because I trust Tsurumaki. However, I'm not expecting much after that first episode... bleh.
Texhnolyze - Just started this... could go either way actually. I'm neither impressed nor unimpressed by it this early on (eps 2) .. so.. here's hoping.
I also have seen episodes of
Bleach and I'm debating seeing where that goes.
Samurai Champloo keeps getting high marks so I'm considering trying that one. And I recently started reading the manga
Death Note.
At this rate, I won't be so confused by costumes and events come Anime Central 2005.
And I know everyone says this after Stand Alone Complex, but... I want a Tachikoma!
Guess I'll have to settle for a
QRIO...
So I took a trip down memory lane this morning for some reason and started wading through the good old Eva ML archives seeking out my original post, and I done found it. Funny, the first thread I ever posted to about Evangelion was regarding who shot Kaji:
[EVA] Okay, need this cleared up.*SPOILER*

On a very reliable website I heard that Anno announced that "Kaji was
shot by either someone from Nerv personnel or a Seele agent". Although
that could be wrong. It doesn't seem like GAiNAX is too worried about
that secret since it really has no bearing on the plot as a whole.
I've heard that theory on Misato, but I don't think it's true. If it
is then Misato is more screwed up than I thought she was...

-> Woohoo! I'd love to see Manga Ent. get the rights to the Eva films.
They were the first company I bought from, so maybe I feel more loyalty
to them, but they have rights to some of the best aniamted films ever.
D&R, EoE, and (perhaps) RoE would be a nice addition to their release
records. Also, the dub would be ten times better than ADV's. Manga seems
to save the best voice actors for the best animation they get. Just look
at Patlabor, Ghost in the Shell and Ninja Scroll. Just an opinion.

Hahaha.. I was pushing for Manga Ent. to pick up EoE since 1998.
If only I knew where that path would lead (though, the Manga in 1998 turned out to not be the same Manga in 2002)
By the way, this has nothing to do with anything, but if anyone wants to play a round of Halo 2 on XBox Live, add
MechanicalGhost (no spaces) to your Friends list and drop me a line sometime....
